University Heights Academy wasted no time in putting its foot down at the start of Monday’s district game at Fort Campbell.

You can use all of the cliches you want in incorporating UHA’s nickname into the story. They ‘blazed a trail to victory.’ ‘Their fast start was a-blazing.’ ‘UHA set the scoreboard ablaze.’ ‘The Blazers were on fire.’

No matter the corny reference, UHA scored 42 first quarter points and shot 61% from the field as they hammered the Falcons 84-39 on post on Monday.

The win continued UHA’s dominance over its district foe and was their 49th win over the Falcons in the past 50 meetings.

Six Blazers scored multiple buckets in the opening quarter as UHA built a 42-7 lead. The Blazers hit 18 of their first 21 shots and was 25 of 33 from the field in the first half.

Elijah Walton scored 12 of his 20 points in the opening quarter and Kyler Baker added seven.

In all, eleven Blazers hit the scoring column despite the running clock. UHA is 5-0 when scoring 80 points and 5-0 when allowing fewer than 50 points.

Fort Campbell was playing without two of the team’s top five scorers and saw a four-game winning streak end.

Tyreek Anthony scored six of his team-high 12 points in the second quarter. Maurice Moore added 11 points and John Arnold had seven points and 10 rebounds for the Falcons.

Both teams will be in All A Classic region play on Tuesday. The Blazers will play at Heritage Christian Academy in a rematch of last year’s championship game, while Fort Campbell will host Dawson Springs.
