The Todd County Central girls’ basketball team started slow and never found its stride on Monday in a 61-40 4th Region All ‘A’ defeat to visiting Cumberland County.

Playing without second-leading scorer Abby Williams, the Lady Rebels managed only five points in the opening quarter.  However, they were within three points at 13-10 after Jordyn Shemwell drilled a three-pointer with two minutes played in the second quarter.

But the Lady Panthers pulled away behind eight points each for Madi Cooksey and Keagan Walden, with Cooksey’s jumper stretching the lead to 30-17 with just under two minutes left in the half.

Todd Central got as close as nine points in the third quarter after Alexis Taylor scored in the paint to make it 34-25 with 3:32 left in the frame.  But Cumberland capped an 11-2 run with a Graci Craft three-pointer to open up a 20-point advantage with a quarter to play.

Taylor scored five in the fourth for the Lady Rebels, including a three-pointer to cut the margin to 15 with 1:46 to play, but the Lady Panthers scored the final six points of the game.  Cooksey scored seven in the fourth to finish with 17 for Cumberland County.  Walden led all scorers with 18, and Kenzie Willen also reached double figures with 13.

Taylor was named to the All-Tournament team and led the Lady Rebels with 15, joined in double figures by Shemwell with 12.
