If you had told me Kentucky would have a player on the Wooden Award midseason watch list before the season started I would have thought it was possible.
Now Kentucky has not one, but two players, on the prestigious list and it is not who I thought it might be.
Senior Antonio Reeves and freshman Reed Sheppard were two of the 25 players selected for the Wooden Award midseason watch list. Eventually 15 finalists for the 2024 John R. Wooden Award Men’s Player of the Year honor will be selected.
Reeves was the SEC Co-Sixth Man of the Year last season and leads Kentucky (12-2) in scoring at 18.6 points per game. Reeves has scored in double figures in 13 of 14 games and scored 20 points or more six times highlighted by his 30-point outing against Louisville.
Sheppard is having a sensational freshman season and is one of only two freshmen on the Wooden list. He is averaging 11.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.5 steals per game. He has had two 25-point games and had a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists against Louisville.
Kentucky has had two Wooden Award winners — Anthony Davis (2012) and Oscar Tshiebwe (2022).

Good Luck to both. I’ve had the pleasure to meet John Wooden & receive an autograph from the man. Google "Pyramid of Success"
