A 14-0 run to start the game on the way to a 28-point first quarter proved to be more than enough offense to help the Christian County girls’ basketball team to a 72-12 victory over 8th-District rivals Heritage Christian Academy on Thursday.
The Lady Colonels moved to 2-0 in district play with their third-straight victory with a trip to Hopkins County Central scheduled for Saturday.
Anaysia Bagwell and Lazarie Daniel provided the early offense, combining for four three-pointers and 22 first-quarter points. Kate St. Martin’s three with 4:20 left gave the Lady Warriors their first bucket, but Christian County closed the frame on another 14-0 spurt for a 25-point advantage.
Bagwell, Daniel, and the other Lady Colonel starters got the rest of the night off. Carliah Hobson scored six points in the second quarter, and Christian County took a 45-6 lead into the locker room after HCA’s Rachel Robson beat the buzzer with a three-pointer for the Lady Warriors’ only bucket.
With a running clock in the second half, Xiyonna Reid knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the third, and the Lady Colonels outscored HCA 27-6 over the final two quarters. Reid scored a game-high 13, followed by Bagwell with 12, and Daniel with ten. Carliah Hobson pulled down ten rebounds to go with eight points, and Carlie Hobson finished with six and six.
Heritage Christian slipped to 1-6, 1-1 in district play, and have a week off before traveling to Community Christian next Friday.
