It will be the championship game most expected to see when the 2nd Region Boys’ All A Classic brackets were announced some months back. Lyon County will match up against University Heights Academy in Saturday’s final after the Lyons picked up a 92-32 win over Caldwell County Friday night at Crittenden County High School.
As they have on more than one occasion this season, the Lyons opened with a blitz that essentially settled the issue in the first couple of minutes of the game. The Lyon scored the first nine points of the night and never led by fewer than seven points for the rest of the night.
With their defensive pressure igniting their offense, the Lyons rolled out to a 28-11 lead after the first quarter. The saving grace for the Tigers was the play of big man JayDarius Wilson, who scored ten points in the first.
After scoring the final 7 points of the first quarter, Lyon County opened the second quarter by scoring the first six points to push the lead out to 34-11.
The Caldwell County offense had trouble getting any kind of offense going in the second quarter and ball-handling mistakes cost the Tigers in easy baskets at the other end for the Lyons.
Lyon County’s defense held the Tigers to just four points in the quarter as the lead ballooned to 61-15 at the half. Lyon County’s Jack Reddick drew oohs from the crowd as he buried back-to-back 30-footers and had another rim out. The Lyons scored the final 18 points of the half.
The second half played out quickly with the running clock brought into play for the rest of the night. The Lyons’ offense kept rolling as the third quarter played out, putting up 22 points even with the running clock as Lyon County took an 83-26 lead into the final quarter.
Reserves would see most of the 4th quarter action as the game finished out to the final 60-point margin.
‘The Three Amigos’ led the way for the Lyons as Travis Perry had 24, Jack Reddick had 20, and Brady Shoulders finished with 16.
Caldwell County’s JayDarius Wilson was the only Tiger to hit double digits with 16 points.
Caldwell County drops to 7-6 with the loss. The Tigers get back to action Tuesday night when they travel to Mortons Gap for a 7th District showdown with the Hopkins County Central Storm.
Lyon County improves to 17-1 with the win and moves on to the title game Saturday.
Lyon County and University Heights have won all but one All A Classic regional title since 2001. The Blazers won last season’s championship after beating Lyon County in the opening round at University Heights. Lyon County won back-to-back championships in 2021 and 2022, ending an 8-year run by the Blazers.
Saturday night’s championship game is set for a 5pm start in Marion.
