After opening the season with only three wins in their first ten games, the Christian County Lady Colonels appear to be hitting their stride with six victories in their last seven outings and four straight after dispatching visiting Hopkins County Central 66-31 on Saturday.

Christian County had dropped the last three in the series with the Lady Storm, but the Lady Colonels put this one away early with a dominant first half.  Lazarie Daniel and Anaysia Bagwell combined for nine first-quarter points and the score was 14-9 after the first eight minutes.

Christian County’s Amari Northington entered the contest averaging two points per game, but she caught fire in the second frame with a trio of three-pointers and finished 4/7 from behind the arc.  Bagwell added five points, and Carliah Hobson, NeVaeh Day, and D’Ebony Anderson each scored four to help the Lady Colonels outscore the Lady Storm 26-4 and blow the game open.

Hopkins Central scored the first six points of the second half, including four for Tyah White, but Day took over in the paint for the Lady Colonels.  She scored 12 in the third quarter on the way to a game-high 20 points while collecting 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double.  Addie Menser and Calajia Mason teamed up for 12 for the Lady Storm, but they trailed by 31 points with a quarter to play.

Day’s three-point play with 6:53 to play triggered a running clock.  Northington finished with 12 points, and Bagwell also reached double figures with 11.  Daniel pulled down eight rebounds to go with seven points.

Hopkins Central lost for the third time in four tries to slip to 8-10.  Christian County surged above .500 for the first time this season at 9-8 and will travel to Lyon County on Monday.
