Finally Gerald Mincey is going to play football at Kentucky.

He was a three-star prospect at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., when he verbally committed to the Wildcats in February of 2019 after attending UK’s Junior Day. However, about a month later he decommitted from UK and eventually signed with Florida.

After two years at Florida, the 6-6, 335-pound Mincey — a top 50 offensive tackle nationally in his original recruiting class — transferred to SEC rival Tennessee .

Now Mincey is headed to Kentucky to bolster UK’s offensive line. He put his name into the transfer portal about a week ago and was originally scheduled to visit Ole Miss this weekend. Instead, he visited UK and committed to the Cats on Friday.

Courtland Ford, a USC transfer last season, will go into spring practice likely listed as the No. 1 right tackle but Mincey has over 1,000 career snaps and has played both right and left tackle.

The Cats lost right tackle Jeremy Flax and left guard Kenneth Horsey off last year’s offensive line.

Mincey played 430 snaps at right tackle last season and 147 more at left tackle. He missed games in October with a knee injury. He did allow 17 quarterback pressures (15 hurries, two sacks) on 281 pass block plays according to Pro Football Focus.

Mincey started seven games at left tackle in 2022 when Tennessee won 11 games.

  1. Next year will be the best offensive line we have had under Stoops. We will have a experienced line. With the starters being LT Marques Cox a super senior and he will be more polished having played a year in the SEC Also you will see Eli Cox be the leader of the group he will be a super senior as well. Jager Burton might be the most talented player on the line next year and he started his first 2 years so year 3 everything starts slowing down. Dylan Ray was a surprise to me and he looks like he has a mean streak. Tanner Bowles can play multiple positions to keep the train rolling as a back up wherever needed. I think Ben Christman would had started last year if a injury didn’t derail his season. How he comes back from injury will be his factor in playing time. You will have a battle between Gerald Mincey and Courtland Ford for the other tackle position which either one could get the nod to start. Both of them are a step up from Jeremy Flax last year. You also have Jalen Farmer as a wild card to earn some snaps. Nikolas Hall is also going to be solid in the future along with Koby Kennum, Austin Ramsey, Malachi Wood, Aba Selm, Marc Nave, and Hayes Johnson. That being said we are very talented on the offensive line. Running back will be by committee with I think 3 running backs who will share snaps. Maybe the yards are spread out like 600,400,and 250 yards. Dane Key and Barion Brown will be good for 120 catches and 1,500 yards and 15 tds. You have 5 more capable receivers that should get 100 receptions and 1,000 yards between them and 8-10 tds. The Tight end room will take a step forward next year with Dingle getting between 30-40 receptions and Kattus between 20-30 receptions. I also think Brock V will throw for over 3,000 yards and 30-35 Td passes. Defensively I think 2024 will also be a step forward with 6of our front 7 back. Our secondary should be better this year too only losing one out of the secondary. Kentucky has a legitimate chance at 9-3 10-2 record even with this schedule being a gauntlet. 2 things we need to fix is we need to get more plays called this year and we also need to blitz more. Conservative play calling is ok if you have a 17 point lead or more but 1 or 2 touchdowns and you have to keep your foot on the gas Stoops. We lost our bowl game and to South Carolina and Missouri we should have won those 4 games and you could say ole miss too. 11-2 is alot different than 7-6. I think a 9-3 season last year was a given but I also think Leary was highly overrated he did have alot of passes dropped but he also choked in big situations or when we needed a play. God bless Larry Vaught
