Another week, another strong showing for the Caldwell County wrestling program.
Andre Carter was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler and the Tigers took second place in the team standings at the annual Commando Crush tournament at Hendersonville High School in Tennessee on Saturday.
Caldwell had six individual champions while totaling 176 points. Only West Creek had more with 188.
Carter went 3-0 at 113 pounds while being named the event’s top wrestler. He pinned his first opponent in 1:23, then claimed a 5-0 decision in the semifinals. In the first-place match Carter needed just 33 seconds to record a pin and claim the championship.
Logan Brown won all three of his matches to win the 126-pound weight division. That includes a pin at 3:51 in the championship match.
Cofy Walls was 3-0 at 138, including a 12-second pin in his first match. In the championship match, Walls claimed an 8-2 decision.
Timothy Nichols recorded three pins — each in under a minute — while blitzing the competition at 150.
Cale Goodwin went 3-0 at 165. He won his first two matches by pin then took a 9-7 decision in the first-place match.
Cole Sherill won the championship at 215. He recorded pins in his first two matches, then won in a tiebreaker in the first-place match.
Caldwell also got a third-place finish from Justin Klidzejs at 106. Klidzejs went 3-1 with three pins. His only loss was a 16-11 decision in the semifinals, but he came back to take third.
Two other Tigers went 2-2 on Saturday but failed to place.
Elijah Kirby was 2-2 at 120 while Donovan Rogers was 2-2 at 132.
Christian County took third in the tournament, which included wrestlers from 17 schools.
Caldwell County’s wrestlers are scheduled to be in action at Calloway County on Saturday, Jan. 20.
