
The Crittenden County Lady Rockets have made more trips to the girls’ All A Classic than any other 2nd Region team as they head off to Corbin next week for the state tournament. Their win last Saturday over Lyon County gave the Lady Rockets their 9th All A regional championship.
Webster County is second with six titles, while Lyon County has five.
After losing in the opening round of their first five trips to the All A Classic, the Lady Rockets have seen some success over the past few seasons.
Last season, Crittenden County was knocked out in the opening round by Bethlehem.
In 2021, the COVID and winter storm impacted tournament, the Lady Rockets had their best trip to the All A Classic. Crittenden County picked up sectional wins over Murray and Hancock County before advancing to Richmond for the semifinals, where they were knocked out by Bethlehem.
The 2017 tournament, which was played in Frankfort, saw the Crittenden County knock off Sayre in the opening round, before falling to Harlan in the quarterfinals.
The Lady Rockets are likely just glad not to be seeing Bishop Brossart in the opening round of the tournament. Crittenden County’s first three trips to the All A state tournament were ended by Brossart in the opening round in 1998, 1999, and 2001.
Crittenden County (10-7) is set to face off against 11th Region champion Lexington Christian (14-2) in the 8pm game Wednesday night at Corbin Arena. The Lady Eagles advanced with an overtime win against Berea in the regional title game.
The two teams have met before in the All A Classic. In 2011, the Lady Rockets dropped a closed 48-46 decision to the Lady Eagles.
