After becoming the state’s all-time leading scorer last season, Lyon County’s Travis Perry is rapidly closing in on another big milestone in Kentucky basketball history. The march towards 5,000 career points is rapidly headed towards a conclusion that likely will come sometime in the next few days, with a chance that it could happen on the stage of the 2024 All A Classic.
As of Friday morning, Perry has scored 559 points this season. After finishing his junior year with 4,359, that sets him at 4,918 points for his career, just 82 away from his next notch in his Kentucky basketball history belt.
There was originally a shot that it could happen in the All A opener for the Lyons. But, after the postponement of the district game against Trigg County Friday night, their game against Woodford County in the Dan Cummins Classic on Saturday, and the game at Madisonville-North Hopkins on Tuesday before the Lyons head off to Corbin for the All A Classic, it would likely be later in the tournament, if Lyon County can make a deep run in Corbin.
Doing that would add a chapter to his career story, as Perry would have set the all-time scoring record at Rupp Arena last season during the Sweet 16 and then hit the 5,000 mark during the All A Classic.
At his current pace, should the Lyons return to Rupp and make a deep run, Perry would have a shot to surpass 5,500 points, placing the state’s all-time scoring mark more than 1,000 points higher than King Kelly Coleman’s previous record.
Travis Perry Year-by-Year scoring totals:
2023-2024 559
2022-2023 1,170
2021-2022 990
2020-2021 709
2019-2022 852
2018-2019 638

I’ve seen Lyon County play a few games over the last 3 years. They play hard, smart, and exciting basketball. They play well together.
