
Hopkins County Central fans were probably tired of hearing, “Basket by Wilson,” over the PA Monday night.
Jaydarius Wilson had 27 points and 14 rebounds as Caldwell County claimed a 72-55 7th District victory at Mortons Gap. If that wasn’t enough, the Tigers also got seven points off the bench from Kam Wilson while ending a four-game losing skid against the Storm.
Caldwell (8-6 overall, 2-0 district) got out of a back-and-forth first quarter with a 17-16 edge.
The Tigers took a 32-26 lead to halftime.
But Caldwell opened up the game in the third quarter, leading by as much as 18 points in the frame before taking a 56-41 advantage to the final stanza.
Hopkins Central (5-11, 0-3) could never make a run in the fourth quarter. Instead, the Tigers built their biggest lead at 69-47 on the way to the 17-point triumph.
Jaydarius Wilson had 14 points in the first half and 13 after the break to lead Caldwell.
Demaurius Thompson added 11 points for the Tigers and Cade Rowland had 10.
Hopkins Central got 15 points from Davonyae Butcher, 13 from Drake Skeen and 10 from Luke Sumner.
The Storm still leads the all-time series 31-28.
Caldwell is now 5-2 in its last seven games this season.
The Tigers will be right back in action on Tuesday when they host Fort Campbell. The Falcons are 4-6 after falling to Heritage Christian Academy 64-49 on Monday.
Hopkins Central next hosts Dawson Springs on Friday.
