Caldwell County’s girls had no answer for Tyah White Monday night.
The Hopkins County Central sophomore dumped in 28 points to lead the Lady Storm to a 74-64 7th District victory over the Lady Tigers.
Caldwell, now 5-11 overall and 2-1 in the district, held the lead early, going up 12-11 after one quarter and leading by as much as six points in the second period.
But Hopkins Central (9-9, 2-1) relied on White to not just grab the lead, but build a 35-24 advantage at halftime.
Caldwell was never out of the game until late, but each time the Lady Tigers would have the makings of a potential run, White would come up with a key basket at the other end to keep her team in control.
After failing to score in the opening stanza, White tallied 11 points in the second period and another 10 in the third quarter.
Caldwell seemed to catch a break with 4:33 left in the game when White was whistled for her fifth foul on an over-the-back call.
Hopkins Central led 66-56 at the time.
But the Lady Tigers could not take advantage.
Instead, the Lady Storm pushed the margin to 15 at 73-58 on their way to the 10-point triumph.
Kenzleigh Harrison added 14 points for Hopkins Central. Addie Menser had 10.
For Caldwell, Med Thomas and Tink Clark each finished with 14 points. Brylee Butts added 10.
Hopkins Central has now taken six straight from Caldwell. The Lady Storm lead the all-time series 36-32.
Next up for the Lady Tigers is a home date Friday with district favorite Madisonville-North Hopkins.
Hopkins Central will host Muhlenberg County Tuesday night.
