Rosella Rajj poured in 25 points and the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons used an 18-0 second-quarter run to down misfiring Heritage Christian Academy 53-17 on Monday in an 8th-District tilt.
The victory is the Lady Falcons’ first in five all-time meetings with the Lady Warriors and avenges a four-point defeat earlier this season. Fort Campbell snapped a three-game skid to improve to 2-9 and even its district mark at 1-1.
Rajj scored the final four points of the first quarter to give the Lady Falcons a one-point edge, but Rachel Robson opened the second with a bucket to push HCA back in front. Rajj answered with a putback, sparking an 18-0 run that put Fort Campbell in control for good.
Jerni Hicks went 6/6 from the free throw line in the second frame, and Rajj doubled her total with six more points to send the Lady Falcons into the halftime break with a 26-11 advantage.
Heritage Christian endured a frigid shooting night, finishing 4/45 from the floor, and 1/19 from behind the arc. The Lady Warriors didn’t do themselves any favors at the free throw line either, managing only eight makes on 27 attempts.
Madison Newingham scored six in the third for Fort Campbell, and Rajj capped an eight-point quarter with a three-pointer just ahead of the horn for a 44-17 lead. The Lady Falcons held HCA scoreless over the final eight minutes, with the 17 points the fewest they’ve allowed since Cloverport scored 11 last season.
Fort Campbell won the rebounding battle 46-24, led by Newingham with 12 and India Price with ten. Rajj led all scorers and Newingham added 12 points to finish with a double-double.
The Lady Falcons will look to make it two in a row when they host Northeast, TN on Thursday.
HCA lost for the fifth time in a row to slip to 1-7, 1-2 in district play. The Lady Warriors hit the road on Tuesday to face Community Christian before opening the KCAC Tournament against Christian Fellowship in Elizabethtown on Friday.
