The Club 15 FanFest was a perfect outing for Kentucky fans to meet over 40 UK football players along with some gymnasts and baseball players.

One of the marquee names at FanFest Saturday was sophomore All-American defensive lineman Deone Walker and he might have had more fun than fans based on what he told us on WLAP Sunday Morning Sports.

“It was great interacting with the fans. I really liked being able to show I am human,” said Walker. “No matter what and I know I am a big football player, but I am still Deone.

“I am a down to earth guy. I like to laugh and keep the vibes up and I love to meet people.”

Walker met a lot of UK fans, including one who wanted him to sign a baby bottle — and he did it.

“Everyone just seemed excited to see me and get my autograph and take pictures,” Walker said.

Walker understands some UK fans might not have been able to make last week’s event but would still like to meet him.

“We are trying to set up where I do a signing for an hour or two. We have not got that done yet but we are working on it,” Walker said.

What type of NIL event would he like to do?

“I am a bowler. I have my own bowling balls,” Walker said. “I got a 16 (pound), 15 (pound) and 12 (pound). I use my 16 on my first ball and my 12 for (spare) pick ups.”

Walker said he normally bowls in the 200 to 230 range per game which seems incredible for someone as large as him. However, that also shows his athleticism and agility.

He hopes more UK fans will join The 15 Club to help support UK athletes.

“We need people who want to join the collective. You are paying for the program. Let’s be real. It costs to get other guys like me,” Walker said. “Trevin Wallace was a stud (who has left UK for the NFL) and it is hard to find someone (to replace him) but we got Pop (Jamon Dumas-Johnson of Georgia) and he’s going to be a dog behind me. So it (NIL revenue) is not just for Deone but to get more players.”

Those attending FanFest also saw that Walker’s left arm was in a sling. He said had offseason surgery to correct a torn shoulder labrum.

“This was my first real surgery where they put me to sleep,” Walker said. “I should be good for the season. I’ve had this since high school and just had to play through it the last two years. It’s something you just do but we decided now I should get it fixed to be ready for next season.”
