Trigg County saw Livingston Central’s 13-0 third quarter run and raised it with a 16-4 game-ender to claim a 58-51 district win in Smithland on Tuesday.
Logan Wring buried a 3-pointer ahead of the third quarter horn to cap a 13-0 spurt and give Livingston a 43-34 lead.
Zion Meyers scored eight points during the stretch that saw Trigg County fail to score over the final 4:31 and miss 11 of its 13 shots in the quarter.
Livingston Central extended its lead to 47-42 with 5:46 left and that’s when Trigg’s defense came to the rescue. Livingston missed 12 of its final 14 shots from the field and the Wildcats turned four turnovers into six points over the final eight minutes.
For the game, Trigg County scored 17 points off 15 Livingston turnovers.
Davaree Gude scored 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats hit nine of their 10 shots from the field.
Jhaden Vaughn joined Gude in double figures with 23 points and 13 rebounds. He moved past Anthony Mayes (1,541) into sixth place on Trigg County’s all-time scoring list with 1,563 points. Chris Sparks is fifth with 1,821 points.
Landon Stewart also reached double figures with 11 points.
Wring led the Cardinals with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Meyers added 14 points.
Trigg County moved to 3-1 in district play with its 10th straight win over Livingston Central. The Cardinals dropped to 1-4.
Trigg County will play at Webster County on Thursday, host Apollo on Friday, and play at Carlisle County on Saturday.
