
The red-hot Christian County girls’ basketball team pulled away from hosts Hopkinsville behind 29 points from Anaysia Bagwell on Wednesday, winning for the fifth straight time and moving to 3-0 in 8th-District play.
The Lady Colonels completed a regular-season sweep over the Lady Tigers and secured their fifth win in a row in the series. After an 18-day layoff, Hopkinsville suffered its fifth straight defeat ahead of a visit from Trigg County on Thursday.
The Lady Tigers kept things close in the opening quarter with Shiyah Forte and Crislyn Murray combining for eight points. But Bagwell scored seven, including back-to-back layups in the final minute to give Christian County a 13-8 advantage after the first frame.
Bagwell’s corner three-pointer to open the second quarter doubled up the Lady Tigers 16-8, and Christian County closed the half on a 14-2 run to cruise into the break. Nevaeh Day scored eight points for the Lady Colonels, and the margin reached 20 points after Amari Northington’s three-pointer.
In the third, the Lady Tigers got as close at 13 after a bucket by MaKaya Payton, but Christian County answered with a 13-4 spurt capped by a Bagwell three to lead 50-28 with a quarter to play.
Bagwell knocked down a pair of threes in the fourth quarter to finish 5/6 for the game. Alicia Davis scored seven points over the final eight minutes to finish with 14 for Hopkinsville. The final 33-point margin was the Lady Colonels’ largest lead of the game.
Both teams left points at the free throw line, with Hopkinsville finishing 9/24 and the Lady Colonels hitting only 12 of 32 attempts.
Day finished with a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds, Lazarie Daniel scored ten points, Bagwell added eight boards, and D’Ebony Anderson pulled down seven.
Christian County improved to 10-8 and will host Warren Central on Monday, while Hopkinsville slipped to 3-6.
