Hoptown’s Board Work Helps End Skid

The Trigg County Lady Wildcats have found that when they hit the road in 2023-24, the road usually hits back.

Hopkinsville used a 20-2 second half run to pull away for a 68-28 win over the Lady Wildcats on Thursday at Tiger Gym.

The loss dropped Trigg County to 3-11 overall and 0-4 in road games. The Lady Wildcats are averaging just 26 points in those road losses.

Trigg managed just six field goals in 37 attempts but stayed close for two-and a half quarters thanks to a season-high 27 trips to the free throw line. They hit 14.

Hopkinsville shot just 32-percent from the field but held a 50-30 advantage on the glass, including 29 offensive rebounds that led to 28 second chance points.

Shiyah Forte nearly hit right at her season average of 14 points and 14 rebounds. She had 13 points and 15 boards on Thursday.

Kahtahvia Fleming scored 13 points and added eight rebounds and MaKaya Payton hit four 3-pointers for 12 points. As a team, Hoptown was 11-of-37 behind the 3-point line.

Trigg County got eight points from A.J. Navarro and seven from Evonna McGee.

The win snapped a six-game losing streak and was Hopkinsville’s 15th straight over Trigg County dating back to 2003.

Hopkinsville will host Grayson County Saturday afternoon, while Trigg County travels to Webster County on Friday.
