Webster County put 11 players in the scorebook and used a big second quarter to top Trigg County for the second time this season with a 69-42 victory on Thursday in Dixon.
Micah Austin got the Trojans off to a good start with seven first-quarter points, but Jerimyah Shearer matched that output and the Wildcats were within a basket after the first eight minutes.
However, Webster used the deep ball to pull away in the second frame, with Austin and Trace Hardison each knocking down a pair of three-pointers, and Malakai Orcutt adding six points to help the Trojans outscore Trigg 24-11. Jhaden Vaughn scored seven for the Wildcats, but they trailed 36-21 at the halftime break.
Vaughn added seven more points in the third quarter and Davaree Gude chipped in four for the Wildcats, but Evan Michalek and Orcutt combined for 12 and the Trojans held a comfortable 19-point advantage with a quarter to play.
Vaughn scored four in the fourth to finish with a game-high 19, but the Trojans continued to extend the lead. The Wildcats didn’t do themselves any favors at the free throw line, finishing 5/15 for the game.
Austin led Webster with 13 points, followed by Michalek and Orcutt with 11 each. The Trojans were a perfect 12/12 from the charity stripe.
