Caldwell County’s girls rallied from 10 points down in the second half to take the lead in the fourth quarter.

But Webster County regrouped and got out of town with a 44-41 victory in action Saturday afternoon in Princeton.

Back-to-back drives to the basket by Morgan Aikins gave the Lady Tigers a 37-36 lead with 4:03 left in the game.

It was part of a 15-point performance by the Caldwell junior, and helped the Lady Tigers erase a 29-19 deficit early in the second half.

But Malorie Austin put Webster back in front 38-37, then the Lady Trojans made their free throws down the stretch to hold on.

After Caldwell tied the game at 38-38 with 2:53 to go, Anna Dunn hit two charity tosses at the 2:41 mark to put Webster ahead 40-38.

The Lady Trojans were then able to run down the clock as Caldwell had to foul three times to put Webster in the bonus.

Addison Thompson was finally sent to the stripe with 22 seconds to play. She made both attempts to push the Lady Trojans’ lead to 42-38.

Caldwell wasn’t done, though, when Brylee Butts nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key to pull the Lady Tigers within 42-41. But just 6 seconds remained.

Caldwell was forced to foul, and put Austin on the line with 4.1 seconds left.

She made both free throws to give Webster its 44-41 lead.

The game still wasn’t over, with Caldwell getting the ball to the Butts again. But her 3-pointer at the horn was off the mark, leaving Webster with the three-point triumph.

Hannah Yates hit four 3s and finished with 12 points to lead the Lady Trojans. Austin had 11 points and Thompson finished with eight.

For Caldwell, Tink Clark had 10 points to go along with Aikins’ 15. KeDarriah Thompson had 13 rebounds to go with three points.

Webster has now won back-to-back games after starting the season 1-16.

The Lady Trojans have taken 18 straight from the Lady Tigers going back to February 2007.
