Christian County Wrestlers Win Jessamine County Clash

A late change to the schedule paid off for the Christian County wrestling team as they took first place on Saturday at the Jessamine County Clash in central Kentucky.

The Colonels bested 20 other schools with a score of 156 – five points better than second place Western Hills and ten more than third place Bryan Station.

Christian County had one individual champion and two more that finished in second place.

Haydon Merrick won the 138-pound class, defeating Corbin’s B.J. Jackson with a pin in the championship match. Both wrestlers entered the title match with two losses.

Zach Eads took second place in the 157-pound class, falling to Aiden Cook (25-1) of East Jessamine by a 9-7 decision in the championship match.

Xaveiyon Reid was second in the 285-pound class, falling to Bryan Station’s Dahvon Frazier by a 9-3 decision in the title match.

Kevondre Young and Holden Schneider both finished in third place. Young beat Shayne Stilts of DeSales with a 6-1 decision to claim third in the 120-pound class. Young entered the week ranked No. 19 in the weight class, while Stilts was No. 9.

Schneider beat Lucas Oliverio of DeSales 3-1 to take third place at 126.

Tay Martinez was fifth in the 144-pound class with a 3-2 day as was Isaiah Davidson in the 175-pound class.

Xaveir Reid was sixth in the 215-pound class.

Christian County will host Owensboro Catholic on Thursday for its Senior Night. The Region I Tournament will be on February 10 at Calloway County.
