Ball security issues were the undoing of a great night shooting the ball Monday night for the Heritage Christian Academy Warriors. HCA was forced into 20 miscues by the Madisonville-North Hopkins defense as the Maroons took a 78-56 win on their home floor.
Madisonville used an early 11-0 run to take a 14-2 lead midway through the opening quarter. The Maroon lead would 23-9 at quarter’s end.
A 10-0 blitz early in the second quarter would run the lead out to 33-13 and put the Maroons in firm control for the rest of the night. Madisonville would take a 44-27 lead into the break.
The Maroons would use another 10-0 midway through the third to effectively deliver the knockout blow, turning a 46-29 lead into 56-29. The score would be 62-42 heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Jason Leek had another ‘Jason Leek’ kind of night, finishing with 34 points to lead the Warriors. Landen Wells knocked down three shots from behind the arc to score 9 points for HCA. Layton Giltner added 6 more.
Madisonville was paced by Ryan Bryant with 18 points.
HCA shot well in the Maroons’ home gym, knocking down 68.2 percent from inside the 3-point line and 40 percent from behind the arc.
The loss drops the Warriors to 9-10 on the season. Heritage Christian is set to be back in action Tuesday night when they host Dawson Springs.
