Lady Lyons End Skid With Win at Mayfield

The Lyon County Lady Lyons overcame a slow start Tuesday night and rebounded to come back and take a 54-49 win on the road against the Mayfield Lady Cardinals. The win ended a two-game losing skid for the Lady Lyons.

Lyon County’s offense struggled out of the gate, scoring only six points in the first quarter as Mayfield took a 14-6 lead after the opening quarter.

The second quarter it was the Lady Lyon defense that stole the show. Lyon County limited Mayfield to just two points in the second quarter as they took a 19-16 lead at the half.

Mayfield trimmed a point off the lead in the third as they outscored the Lady Lyons 19 to 17 making it a 36-35 game going into the last quarter.

The Lady Lyons, using the inside-outside combination of Piper Cotham and Trinity Taylor were able to hold off Mayfield in the fourth quarter and take a 54-49 win. Cotham and Taylor combined to score 17 of the Lady Lyons 18 points over the final 8 minutes of the game.

Cotham led the Lady Lyons with 24 points. Trinity Taylor added 13, while Jenna Coursey finished with 11. Courtney Collins did not score but did pull down 11 rebounds.

Lay Mayes was the leading scorer for Mayfield with 13 points, 8 of them in the third quarter. Skylar Mandry chipped in with 11.

Lyon County improves to 13-7 with the win. The Lady Lyons get back to action Friday night at home against Crittenden County.
