The Christian County Colonels continue to look the part of a team that no one will want to face in the postseason. The Lady Colonels withstood a fast start from the Crittenden County Lady Rockets Tuesday night and worked their way back to take a 64-61 win in Marion.
The Lady Rockets, led by Anna Boone, knocked down four three-pointers in the first quarter on their way to a 20-12 lead. Boone scored eight points and hit two from beyond the arc in the first eight minutes.
Christian County’s defense tightened up in the second quarter, allowing just two three-pointers and 12 points overall. Meanwhile, the offense, anchored by Anaysia Bagwell and NeVaeh Day, got things rolling and cut the lead to three at the half at 32-29. Bagwell and Day combined to score 11 points in the quarter.
The Christian County ‘D’ completely shut down the outside shooting for the Lady Rockets in the third quarter. On the offensive end, Crittenden County had trouble slowing down NeVaeh Day, who added six more points in the third and helped bring the Lady Colonels back into a 43-43 tie.
The final quarter saw a scoring battle between Boone and Bagwell, as each put up 11 points in the final eight minutes. However, Christian County was able to get to the lead and then fend off the Lady Rockets for the three-point win.
Anaysia Bagwell led the way for the Lady Colonels with 24 points. NeVaeh Day ended up with 18 points and 11 rebounds for Christian County.
Crittenden’s Anna Boone led all scorers with 28 points. Jordyn Hodge, Andrea Federico, and Bristyn Rushing all had 8 points each for the Lady Rockets.
Christian County improves to 12-8 with the win, which was their 7th straight. The Lady Colonels are set to be back in action a week from Thursday when they host Fort Campbell in an 8th District contest.
