Heritage Christian Academy set off some big second-half fireworks in their home gym Thursday night, figuratively of course. The Warriors scored 53 points in the second half as they rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit to take a 79-69 win over the Livingston Central Cardinals.
The win avenges a 12-point loss in Smithland back on January 20.
Early on, it looked as if it would be a repeat performance for the Cardinals. Logan Wring came out hot, scoring 12 points in the opening quarter as Livingston Central took a 16-12 lead. Jason Leek kept the Warriors close with 9 points in the first eight minutes.
The Livingston Central defense was able to shut Leek down in the second quarter. At the other end, Wring had 12 more for the Cardinals as they were able to extend the lead to 39-26.
Coming out of the break, it was all Heritage Christian. Jason Leek and Landen Wells put on a show for Warriors’ fans in the second half. The duo combined to score 22 points in the third as HCA came roaring back to cut the lead to 55-52.
The offensive firepower did not let up for HCA in the final quarter. Leek and Wells combined for 18 more in the final eight minutes of the game as the Warriors pulled away for the 10-point win.
Jason Leek led the Warriors with 30 points. Landen Wells lit it up for 25 points, including seven 3-pointers.
Livingston Central’s Logan Wring led all scorers in the game with 32 points. Ziam Myers also reached double figures with 11.
Heritage Christian improves to 10-10 on the year. The Warriors travel across town Saturday afternoon to take on the Hopkinsville Tigers.
