White’s Big Night Leads Hopkins County Central’s Fight

Tyah White’s accuracy and her teammates’ work in the paint helped Hopkins County Central defeat Trigg County 65-46 on Friday at Wildcat Gym.

The sophomore knocked down 12 of 15 shots and hit her only free throw attempt to score 26 points.

White was one of three Lady Storm players to hit double figures. Calajia Mason added 14 points, and Kenzleigh Harrison scored 12 points and came up with five steals as Hopkins Central shot 54% from the field.

The Lady Storm outscored Trigg 36-14 in the paint as part of a performance that saw them lead wire-to-wire.

Hopkins Central used a 10-0 run to turn a 10-5 advantage into a 20-5 lead. An 11-0 shutout by the Lady Storm in the second quarter saw them take a 34-9 lead into halftime.

Hopkins Central built a 61-23 lead before Trigg rallied against mostly Lady Storm reserves.

The Lady Wildcats scored the final 18 points of the game over the final 3:18 for the final 19-point margin.

AJ Navarro hit four of Trigg’s seven 3-pointers and finished with 19 points and five steals. Veyda Grinols added 10 points and eight rebounds.

The win was Hopkins County Central’s third straight over Trigg County, including a 71-24 win over the Lady Wildcats in December. HCC leads the all-time series 10-3.

Hopkins County Central is 13-9 and will host Ohio County on Saturday.

While Trigg County has been playing better basketball of late, the slipped to 3-17 with its ninth straight loss. They will host Crittenden County on Monday and entertain Lyon County the following night at Wildcat Gym.
