Caldwell Wrestlers Take 3rd at North Oldham Mustang Classic

Caldwell County’s wrestlers brought home a third-place trophy from their final regular-season event on Saturday — The North Oldham Mustang Classic in Goshen.

The Tiger matmen had two individual champions in the 27-team event.

Cofy Walls went 5-0 at 138 pounds to claim that weight class. That includes an 8-3 decision over Payton Durbin of Meade County in the finals.

After winning his first two matches by pin, Walls won by major decision in the quarterfinals and won by technical fall in the semifinals.

Cole Sherill placed first at 215 pounds, going 4-0 on the day. Sherill pinned his first three opponents — including a fall in 21 seconds in the semifinals — before decisioning Drew Stearman of North Oldham 12-4 in the championship match.

Justin Klidzejs was runner-up at 106. He pinned his first two opponents before falling to Brycen Gray of Woodford County 8-2 in the finals.

Andre Carter placed third at 113. He went 3-1, pinning Jaylen Crutcher of Franklin County in 2:18 in the third-place match.

Timothy Nichols and Cale Goodwin each recorded fifth-place finishes.

Nichols went 3-2 at 150, decisioning Braylen Livingston of George Rogers Clark 6-0 in the fifth-place match.

Goodwin was 4-2 at 175. He pinned James Bas of Louisville Seneca in 3:27 in the fifth-place match.

Caldwell totaled 148.5 points in the tournament.

Oldham County claimed the championship with 220.5 points while North Oldham was runner-up with 155.5.

Next up for the Tigers is the Region 1 Tournament this Saturday at Calloway County High School.
