
In the first-ever meeting between the new 8th-District rivals, the Hopkinsville Tigers put Saturday’s matchup with Heritage Christian Academy away in the first quarter on the way to a 92-42 victory.
The Tigers hit four three-pointers in the opening frame, including two from Jonathan Hart, to race out to a 29-7 advantage. Hart scored 11 and Antonio Williams provided the early highlight with a dunk off the backboard to cap an eight-point quarter.
Hoptown hounded Warriors’ leading scorer Jason Leek, holding the 24-point per-game scorer to ten, five in the second quarter. Layton Giltner added four points but HCA was outscored 29-19 for a 58-24 halftime score.
DeReion Dudley and DeAvery Ramey combined for ten for the Tigers, Williams added six to finish with 14 in the half, and James Bradley scored on a pair of floaters to close the quarter.
Williams’ jumper to open the third quarter triggered a running clock, part of a ten-point frame to finish with a game-high 24 points. Dudley scored five to join Hart with 15, and Keontae Radford knocked down a pair of threes in the third.
Hopkinsville won its second straight to improve to 9-13, 3-2 in district play, ahead of a trip to University Heights on Friday. The Blazers came from behind to win the first meeting 67-62.
HCA slipped to 2-3 against district competition, 10-11 overall, and will be at home against Foundation Christian Academy on Tuesday.
