Fort Campbell Rally Comes Up Just Short at Montgomery Central

After falling behind early, the Fort Campbell Falcons nearly came all the way back to pick up the road win Friday night. Montgomery Central, after building an 8-point lead early in the game turned back the Falcon rally however, and picked took the 48-45 win.

Montgomery Central limited Fort Campbell to just three field goals in the first quarter on its way to a 15-7 lead. Drew Yarbrough lit it up for Central, scoring 10 points, including two 3-pointers in the first eight minutes.

From there, the Falcons worked to try and get themselves back into the game.

J.P. Perryman helped get Fort Campbell started on the comeback trail, scoring 6 points in the second quarter, as the Falcons cut the lead to 25-20 at the half.

Lashaud Smiley began to take over down in the lane as the second half got underway. The Falcon big man scored six points in the third quarter as Fort Campbell closed to within 33-31.

Down the stretch though, Montgomery Central was able to hold on to the game by knocking down 10 of 12 at the free throw line.

Cold shooting was an issue all night long for the Falcons, as they knocked down just 19 of 59 from the field.

Eric Greene was the Falcons’ leading scorer with 13 points. Lashaud Smiley finished with 11, while J.P. Perryman added 10.

Montgomery Central’s Drew Yarbrough led all scorers in the game with 29 points. He was 13 of 16 at the free throw line.

The loss drops Fort Campbell to 5-13 on the season. The Falcons host Hopkinsville Monday night in an 8th District contest.
