In the final 8th-district regular season game for each team, the Hopkinsville Tigers steadily pulled away from hosts Fort Campbell on Monday for a 75-30 victory. The Tigers finished their district slate at 4-3 while the Falcons were winless against district competition.
Hopkinsville got off to a bit of a slow start on Monday, with the game tied at 4-4 midway through the opening quarter before Antonio Williams scored on a putback to break the deadlock and put the Tigers in front for good. Lashaad Smiley’s free throw was the only point for the Falcons over the final four minutes, and they trailed 19-5 with a quarter played.
A 22-0 run over the first three and a half minutes of the second frame put the game thoroughly out of reach. Williams scored seven straight points on a putback, an and-1, and a dunk in traffic to highlight his 15-point half, and DeReion Dudley took his first-half total to ten with four in the second to help the Tigers to a 44-17 advantage at the break.
Smiley scored all ten of his points in the first half, and Maurice Moore added five in the second quarter for the Falcons.
The first of two layups off steals by Dudley triggered a running clock with 6:08 left in the third. Dudley also drilled a pair of three-pointers in the quarter to finish with a game-high 22 points. Williams added six points in the third to finish with 21 for the game.
Tyreek Anthony scored five points in each of the final two quarters to join Smiley in double figures with ten for the Falcons.
Hopkinsville improved to 10-15 with its third win in its last five. The Tigers host Muhlenberg County on Friday before closing the regular season at Owensboro on February 20.
Fort Campbell lost for the fourth straight time to slip to 5-14. The Falcons also have two games left before the postseason, with a trip to Community Christian on Thursday and a visit to Fort Knox on Friday.
