A Hopkinsville Lady Tiger basketball player will get the chance to continue her athletic and academic career on the collegiate level. Southwestern Michigan College recently announced that Shiyah Forte had signed her NJCAA Letter of Intent to play women’s basketball for Coach Jay Jenkins and the Roadrunners.
In a statement, Coach Jenkins noted, “Shiyah is a walking double-double and can score at all three levels. At 6 feet tall, she is definitely a next-level player.”
Forte joins Khalise Collins of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Rayvan Rush of Lansing, Illinois, Atyanna Alford of Cassopolis, Cam Edmondson of Harvey, Illinois, Bella Cullifer of Constantine, Maggie Weller of Dowagiac and Olivia Robinson of Roscoe, Illinois, as the eighth member SMC’s 2024 Women’s Basketball recruiting class.
After a 26-year hiatus, Southwestern Michigan returned to playing women’s college basketball. The team plays in the 1st Source Bank Fieldhouse. In their first year back to playing in 2022-2023, with an all-freshman team, the Roadrunners compiled an 18-9 overall record and went 8-4 in the MCCAA Western Conference.
This year, the team currently is 19-3 overall.
As of Monday night, Forte was averaging 13.4 points and 12.1 rebounds per contest for the Lady Tigers, leading the team in both categories.
