The surging Hopkinsville girls’ basketball team bounced back from a slow first half on Tuesday to post 51 second-half points on the way to a 72-49 victory over visiting Logan County.

Looking for their fourth win in five outings, the Lady Tigers trailed 16-14 after the first quarter thanks to ten points from Logan County’s Brenley Adler.  The teams combined for only 15 points in the second frame, with Reese Wetton scoring four to help the Lady Cougars lead 24-21 at the halftime break.

Whatever Hopkinsville coach Keith Leslie said to his team at the break, it worked.  Kahtahvia Fleming led the Lady Tigers to a 25-point third quarter with 12 points, including seven makes in as many attempts from the free-throw line.  MaKaya Payton, Alicia Davis, and Lashanti Wilson played supporting roles, combining for 12 points to help Hoptown move in front 46-37 with a quarter to play.

Fleming tacked on five more points over the final eight minutes and finished a perfect 10/10 from the line in the second half.  Wilson connected on a pair of three-pointers to score eight, and Shiyah Forte finished off a 14-point night with four in the fourth.

Adler scored seven to finish with a team-high 19 points, but it wasn’t enough to help the Lady Cougars avoid their third straight defeat.

Fleming led all scorers with 23, and Wilson scored 16 for the Lady Tigers.

Hopkinsville improved to 8-9 with a regular-season finale matchup with Crittenden County on Friday.

Logan County slipped to 14-12 and will head to Allen County-Scottsville on Thursday before home matchups next week with Butler County and Muhlenberg.
