Tilghman Upends University Heights in Inter-Region Battle

A big second half from Elijah Walton was not quite enough for the University Heights Academy Blazers Tuesday night. The Blazers saw a three-game losing streak come to an end with a tough 79-72 loss at Paducah Tilghman.

The loss came despite a 27-point game from Elijah Walton. Walton scored 25 of his points in the second half of play.

The game was tight from the very beginning. The first quarter ended with the two teams tied at 17-17.

The turning point in the game came in the second quarter. The Tilghman defense limited the Blazers to just 12 points while the Blue Tornado offense kicked into gear at the other end. Josh Campbell, Miles Woodfork, and Ahmad Wilkins combined to score 20 points as Tilghman took a 40-29 lead at the half.

Led by Elijah Walton, the Blazers came out in the third quarter and began trying to chew into the Blue Tornado lead. By the end of the quarter, UHA had trimmed the margin to 59-52.

Paducah Tilghman got big threes from Miles Woodfork and Avery Thompson in the final quarter as the Blue Tornado was able to hold on and take the seven-point win.

In addition to Elijah Walton’s 27 points, Kyler Baker added 19 points for the Blazers. Gavin Grubbs added 11 points.

Miles Woodfork was the leading scorer for Paducah Tilghman with 23 points. Avery Thompson ended up with 18 points.

The Blazers fall to 18-6 with the loss. UHA is set to take on Heritage Christian Saturday afternoon.
