The Todd County Central girls’ basketball team turned a narrow halftime deficit into a 20-point victory with a big second half on Friday, dispatching visiting Warren Central 66-46 on Senior Night in Elkton.
Senior Abby Williams scored the first five points of the game and the Lady Rebels led 9-0 after Jordyn Shemwell knocked down a three-pointer. Shemwell capped a seven-point quarter with a pull-up jumper to stretch the margin to 13 before Hannah Bailey connected on a triple to get the Lady Dragons within 10 after the opening quarter.
It looked like the Lady Rebels might put the game away before halftime, but Warren Central clawed its way back behind 11 points from Bri Frausto. The Lady Dragons outscored Todd Central 17-7 to tie the game at 25-25 after Frausto’s bucket in the lane, and her three-pointer with 23 seconds left put Warren Central in front for the first time as the teams headed to the locker room.
But the Lady Rebels answered immediately out of the break, starting the third quarter with a 7-0 run after a bucket on the baseline by Williams. Shemwell scored eight points in the frame, including a basket on a drive to make it 46-34 with less than a minute to play in the third. Alexis Taylor was fouled on a three-point attempt at the horn, and knocked down two of three free throws to help the Lady Rebels outscore Warren Central 21-8.
Taylor and Williams combined for 12 in the fourth to continue to build the lead. A pair of free throws with 1:43 left gave Williams a game-high 23 points, and Taylor finished with 17. Shemwell also reached double figures for the Lady Rebels with 15 points.
Frausto scored 17 to pace the Lady Dragons, followed by Jaliyah Bailey with 12. Warren Central leading scorer Aida Akhmedova finished with seven points, half of her season average.
Todd Central won for the third time in four games to improve to 15-10. The Lady Rebels will travel to South Warren on Tuesday before wrapping up the regular season with a visit from Allen County-Scottsville on Thursday.
