
MaKenna Hendricks wrestled in six matches at Saturday’s Kentucky High School Athletic Association Girls’ State Championship in Lexington.
She won five of the matches and brought home a third-place finish. After an opening-round win, Hendricks, the No. 3 wrestler in the state’s 165-pound class, against the top-ranked wrestler Anna Ruiz of Great Crossing.
Ruiz was able to score a second-round pin of Hendricks that dropped the Trigg County sophomore to the consolation round where she won four consecutive matches, three by pin.
In the third-place match, Hendricks won by fall over Madison Central’s Eryah Reese.
Hendricks finishes her season with a record of 15-3. She previously won a state championship and had two other podium finishes when the girls’ state tournament was sanctioned by the Kentucky Wrestling Coaches Association.
