Caldwell County High School senior Jakhia Copeland is already working on her future.

“I take dual credit classes and will attend Western Kentucky University in the fall,” said Copeland, the lone senior on the Lady Tiger basketball team this season.

Copeland is averaging 4.2 points a game and 4.9 rebounds a game for a Caldwell team that is just 7-20 this season but still has hopes of challenging for the 7th District championship and playing in the 2nd Region tournament.

Copeland scored 13 points on Saturday but the Lady Tigers fell to Christian County 73-56.

Copeland is the manager of Tiger Marketing, which is a school store that makes signs, banners, award plaques, etc.

“I am involved in NHS, FBLA and FCA,” said Copeland.

She is also a member of Community Disciples and was a 2023 Farmers Bank Ambassador.

Copeland was also recently part of a group of CCHS students who participated in the 2024 Career and Technical Education Showcase to demonstrate what they are learning as they prepare for their future. At the showcase, the group demonstrated the products they created through their Entrepreneurship course.

The Kentucky Department of Education’s Office of Career and Technical Education hosted the showcase earlier this month in Frankfort to celebrate Career and Technical Education Week.

Copeland was one of four Senior Queen Candidates last month when Caldwell held its Basketball Homecoming.

Copeland and the Lady Tigers will travel to Murray on Tuesday before finishing the regular season on Friday against Livingston Central as part of a girls and boys Senior Night doubleheader in Princeton.

The district tournament is next week at Madisonville-North Hopkins.
