Hoptown Boys Drop Regular Season Finale at Owensboro

The Hopkinsville Tigers saw a fourth-quarter lead evaporate on Tuesday at Owensboro, ending a two-game winning run with a 71-63 loss to the Red Devils.

The defeat saw Hoptown end the regular season at 11-16.  Owensboro picked up its second win in a row over 2nd-Region competition after topping Henderson County on Friday.

Antonio Williams got the Tigers going with eight points in the first quarter, but Owensboro’s Keaton Hughes matched him and Dayshaun Sanders drilled a pair of three-pointers to score 11 points for a 19-16 Red Devil lead.

DeReion Dudley scored four in the second frame to help the Tigers outscore Owensboro 14-13 and cut the deficit to a basket at the halftime break.

Hopkinsville surged in front in the third behind eight points from Williams, and DeAvery Ramey scored seven to give the Tigers a two-point edge with a quarter left to play.

However, Hughes capped a 25-point night with 11 in the fourth for the Red Devils, and Sanders added six to finish with a game-high 26.  Keontae Radford connected on a pair of threes for the Tigers and Ramey scored five, but they were outscored 27-17 over the final eight minutes.

Williams led the Tigers with 23 points and ten rebounds, Ramey finished with 14, and Radford scored 12.
