Finally It Was Like Old Times Again In Rupp Arena

The student entrance wrapped around Rupp Arena two hours before tipoff. The crowd arrived early and it was hard to find empty seats before tipoff. The request for BBN to show up and make Rupp Arena the sixth man was answered and the Cats responded in a big way Saturday against Alabama.

The absolute hammering of Alabama will always be remembered as the Justin Edwards game. The freshman was a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor (including 4-for-4 from the 3-point line). He grabbed five rebounds, had two assists and made two steals in 29 minutes of playing time.

It was evident with each shot he made that his confidence grew. Everyone had waited for this game, including his teammates who were his biggest cheerleaders. The standing ovation from fans when he left the game with 28 points was something I am sure he could not imagine happening a mere two weeks ago.

There is not a happier person in the United States to be playing basketball than Big Z. He is just happy to be a part of this team. Watching that smile as he runs the floor is like watching the young child hit the ball for the first time and smiles as he rounds the bases. It is heartwarming.

Big Z had his biggest night of his career contributing 18 points, five rebounds, four blocks and only one turnover. Of course, he was doing it all with a smile on his face.

The crowd exited Rupp  Arena with smiles on their faces. I didn’t hear a single “he (John Calipari) needs to go.”  That is the difference between winning and losing.

This team can be the most explosive team in college basketball. This team can be beaten by anyone in college basketball. Those are  just the facts.

Do I feel better? No … it still all comes down to March.

  1. Did you see how happy Big Z and Edward’s were? It’s shameful that kids have to hear supposedly "grown ups" whine about them and their coach. The coach that is the ONLY reason they are here. I guess each year only 15 players are worthy. The other thousands are trash because they didn’t win it all. It is said that what a person puts out into the world comes back ten fold. I hope that’s true for a lot of "so-called" fans.

    1. No Jimmy….the coach isn’t the only reason they are here. They are here for the OND..show me the money!! FACT..Cal does out recruit all or most of coaches in SEC..Most or all of those coaches also out coach the Califraudi. Nobody does less with more than the same guy.
