
The Madisonville-North Hopkins girls continued their mastery of Dawson Springs while advancing to the championship game of the 7th District tournament.
The top-seeded Lady Maroons (15-12) punched their tickets for next week’s 2nd Region tournament by routing the Lady Panthers 65-27 in Monday’s semifinal action at Maroon Gym in Madisonville.
The Lady Maroons scored the first eight points of the night as part of a 19-2 run to start the game.
Madisonville substituted liberally after going up 26-4 after one quarter.
It was 45-13 at halftime as the Lady Maroons moved on.
Kristina Western led Madisonville’s scorers with 10 points. Riley Sword had nine and Taylor Nelson added eight.
Kimberly Hoover had 13 points to lead Dawson Springs. The Lady Panthers also got 10 from Emmalynn Colson.
It was Madisonville’s 45th straight win over Dawson, going back to the 2006 district tournament.
The Lady Maroons will next face Hopkins County Central for the district championship.
The Lady Storm (18-13) advanced to the title tilt by rallying Caldwell County 59-55 in Monday’s second semifinal.
Hopkins Central has won two of the last three 7th District championships but Madisonville has taken three of the last five.
Both Madisonville and Hopkins Central will play in the 2nd Region tournament next week at Trigg County.
Dawson has never won a girls’ district championship. The Lady Panthers were last runners-up in 2018.
Dawson finishes the season with a 4-16 record.
