Lyon County Tabbed As Preseason Favorite in Baseball Coaches Poll

The Lyon County Lyons are the preseason favorites to win the Second region according to the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association.

The Lyons received 12 of the 14 first-place votes from the coaches. Henderson County is ranked second in the poll and received the other two first-place votes.

Lyon County was 21-10 last year and won the district title. The Lyons lost to Henderson County in the region semifinals. Lyon County last won a region title in 2021.

The Colonels were 20-18 last year and won the school’s first regional baseball championship in a decade.

Eighth District schools hold down the next three spots in the preseason rankings.

Christian County (25-12) is ranked third in the poll, one spot ahead of University Heights Academy (15-11). The Colonels won the region in 2022 while UHA works for the school’s first trip to the state baseball tournament.

Hopkinsville (9-18) is No. 5 followed by Caldwell County (19-12) at No. 6 and Union County (10-20) at No. 7.

Madisonville North-Hopkins (10-21) is ranked No. 8 in the preseason poll followed by Webster County (12-16) and Crittenden County (10-13).

The only other team to receive votes in the preseason poll was Trigg County (11-15).
