Four Lyon County pitchers combined to shut out defending 2nd Region champion Henderson County 5-0 in scrimmage baseball action Saturday afternoon at Jim Boyd Field in Eddyville.

Eli Baker, John Bingham, Austin Spears and Korben Lucas struck out nine and walked three in the contest while allowing just three base hits.

Brady Belt had a solo home run to left field in the seventh inning of the nine-inning preseason contest.

The game was scoreless until Lyon came up with an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth.

Turner Hurst reached on an error with two outs and moved up on a wild pitch. Hurst then scored when Drew Richie’s blooper into right fell in for a single.

Lyon put together a three-run sixth with a two-out rally.

Bingham doubled home the first run. He then scored on Baker’s triple, and Baker trotted home when the throw from the outfield left the field of play.

That put Lyon up 4-0 before Belt’s blast in the seventh made it 5-0.

Richie was the only player in the game with multiple base hits, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Lyons are scheduled to host Paducah St. Mary on Thursday for their final scrimmage.

Lyon will open the regular season Monday, March 11, at Hopkinsville.
