Leanne Archbell’s adjustment from a larger high school in Iowa has been a smooth one for the Fort Campbell High School junior.
Archbell is a key member of both the Fort Campbell soccer team and the swim team, advancing to her first state meet last month.
“I just moved here last year and I came from a bigger school, so it was definitely a big transition. But I love our tiny team and we are small but mighty for sure,” she said.
It’s a transition that Archbell has excelled in because of the military lifestyle of her family.
“I feel like we have higher standards than other kids and that can be a good and a bad thing,” she said. “But it pushes us to be the best versions of ourselves.”
In the pool, Archbell qualified for the state first round in three events as part of a Lady Falcon swim program that is less than a decade old.
She finished in 13th place in the 200-yard IM and swam a leg on both the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished eighth and the 200-yard medley relay team that finished in 13th place.
This came after top-five finishes in all three events at the region level.
Archbell was also a starter for the Lady Falcon soccer team last fall.
Off the field and out of the pool, Archbell is the vice-president of the Fort Campbell High School student council, a member of the National Honor Society, and the Math Club.
However, English is her favorite subject.
“I’m a really good writer and love writing stories and analyzing things into writing,” she said.
After high school, Archbell plans to attend Berry College in Georgia and pursue a career in marine biology.
“I want to be a researcher and have always loved the ocean and love animals. I’m going to be writing papers so I’m going to put those interests together.”
