Following Monday’s effort, Todd County Central’s Zack Robinson may lobby to permanently capitalize the “K” in his first name. The Rebels senior was dominant in his squad’s 2024 season opener with 15 strikeouts and a four-hit shutout, leading TCCHS to a 10-0 triumph over Fort Campbell.

Robinson, who had 44 K’s in 41 innings pitched a year ago, threw 34 percent ot that total alone in six innings of work against the Falcons. He fanned the side in order on 10 pitches to set the tone in the first inning and repeated the feat in the second and third innings, too. In the top of the fourth, after giving up three straight singles to Ryan Brewer, Adam Harrington and Michael Anderson, Robinson, escaped the bases-loaded jam with two more strikeouts.

Todd Central gave its starter plenty of run support from the jump. The Rebels got a leadoff double from Devin Schutt and put two runners on when Grady Reding was hit by a pitch, setting the table for Conner Wheeler’s two-run single to make it 2-0 early on. TCCHS got two more runs on one of five Falcon errors in the bottom of the third, and took control for good when Schutt’s two-run triple put his team ahead 7-0 in the fourth. Schutt finished 2-for-4 with two runs out of the leadoff spot. Wheeler went 1-for-2 with three runs, four stolen bases and a walk.

Harrington had two of Fort Campbell’s four hits. Corey Baker also reached base after getting hit by a pitch. FCHS used five pitchers in the Opening Day defeat. Anderson (0-1) struck out three but allowed four hits and five runs in three innings. No other Falcon went more than 1 1/3 innings. Tannar Walters had a pair of strikeouts in his relief performance.

Todd County Central (1-0) starts the season with four straight home games in Elkton. That string will continue with consecutive games against Clarksville, Tennessee, schools — West Creek (March 13) and Northeast (March 14). Fort Campbell will try for its first win of the year March 12 during an 8th DIstrict tilt against Christian County.
