The Christian County Colonels picked up its second district mercy rule win in two days on Tuesday, defeating Fort Campbell 16-0 at Colonel Field.

Gage Montes had three hits and drove in two runs and was one of four Colonel pitchers to take the mound and hold the Falcons scoreless.

Montes drove in two with a single that sparked a nine-run first inning. Jonathan Lewis also had a two-run single in the first for the Colonels who capped the frame with an RBI double from Aiden Lewis.

Coalton Ingram added an RBI hit in the second inning as the Colonels played two more runs.

Eighth grader Ty Grace delivered an RBI single in the third scoring Jace Blue, who entered as a pinch runner at third base. It was the second time in as many days that Blue crossed the plate. The sophomore suffers from Delayed Posthypoxic Leukoencephalapothy – a rare condition that follows a brain incident where a lack of oxygen was present. Blue suffered a severe asthma attack in 2020 during a travel baseball trip that led to cardiac arrest.

Blue’s return to the diamond followed years of rehabilitation and came once doctors cleared him to play.

For Grace, it was part of a two-hit night as the Colonels banged out 10 hits for the game.

Preston Phan began the game with a scoreless first inning on the mound for the Colonels. Montes, Aiden Lewis, and Carter Sholar each followed with a scoreless inning and three strikeouts each.

Christian County’s win came a day after a 15-0 shutout of Heritage Christian Academy. They return to play Friday at Daviess County.

Fort Campbell, now 0-2, will play at Webster County on Friday.
