Trigg County beat Madisonville-North Hopkins 4-2 on Tuesday and gave Will Alexander his first win as Wildcat head coach.
A three-run fifth inning decided the game for the Wildcats, and Aidon Butts did the rest on the mound, scattering five hits and striking out seven while walking just one Maroon. The Wildcat junior retired eight of the last nine batters he faced.
Chase Hampton’s run-scoring fielder’s choice in the fifth plated James Garnett and tied the game at 2-2. Freshman Bentley Reynolds scored on an errant pickoff attempt to push Trigg ahead 3-2. Brayden Jones followed with an RBI single for the 4-2 cushion.

Trigg needed only four singles and two stolen bases but took advantage of three Maroon errors.
Freshman Aaron Hogart doubled and Evan Lear had two of Madisonville’s five hits.
Madisonville returns to play Thursday at Livingston Central.
Trigg County will look to snap an eight-game losing streak to border-rival Caldwell County when they host the Tigers on Thursday.
