Kentucky fans headed to Nashville for the Southeastern Conference Tournament — and I am guessing there will be a lot of them — can get together Friday from 9-11:30 a.m. CST  with the UK Alumni Association and Greater Nashville UK Alumni Club at  the Assembly Food Hall Skydeck (3rd floor, 5055 Broadway Place directly across from Bridgestone Arena).

Cost is $25 per person in advance and $30 at door with children 12 and under free. There will be a breakfast buffet, UK giveaway items and a cash bar.

Guest appearances with UK legends Jack “Goose” Givens, Doug Brunk and Tom Leach, who will conduct book signings during the event, also scheduled.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Greater Nashville UK Alumni Club scholarship fund.

There will also be live music and it seems like UK alum/country music singer J.D. Shelburne would have been the perfect choice to entertain the Big Blue faithful. He’s playing at Tin Roof on Thursday but apparently not at the UK alumni function which befuddles me as much as why UK has never had Shelburne — a former UK Alumni of the Year — sing the national anthem at a UK football or basketball game.

Nobody loves the Cats more than Shelburn and this just seems like it would have been a natural and easy fit for UK Alumni Association, UK fans and Shelburne.
