To absolutely no one’s surprise, Lyon County senior Travis Perry has been named the 2nd Region Basketball Coaches Association 2023-24 Boys’ Player of the Year.

Perry, the state’s all-time leading scorer, has led the Lyons to their third-straight appearance at the state basketball tournament with a 32-3 record.

Lyon will carry a 12-game winning streak into the Sweet 16 next week at Rupp Arena in Lexington.

Perry was presented the Player of the Year award Tuesday night following the 2nd Region championship game in Hopkinsville.

The University of Kentucky signee and presumptive future Kentucky Mr. Basketball leads the 2nd Region in scoring this season at 29.5 points per game. That ranks fourth in the state.

It also helps the Lyons rate as the top scoring team in the commonwealth this season at 85.7 points a game.

Perry is first in the state in 3-pointers made per game at 4.9 and is 10th in the state in free throw percentage at 85.3 percent.

Perry is shooting 42 percent from 3-point range this season.

Lyon will face Ashland Blazer on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. Central time in opening round action at the state tourney.
