Advantageous Tigers Take Down Trigg 11-2

Cole Slone scattered eight hits over six innings and struck out nine batters to lead Caldwell County to an 11-2 win at Trigg County on Thursday.

The win was Caldwell’s ninth straight over Trigg dating back to 2015.

The Caldwell senior got help from both the Tigers’ bats and defense. Carter Whittington threw out a Trigg runner trying to score in the fifth inning and freshman David Ginn smacked a three-run home run in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Caldwell broke through with four runs in the third inning. Channing Puckett was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Whittington followed with a squeeze bunt that scored Luke Parker.

Drew Stevens followed with a two-run single.

Trigg County got a run back in the home half of the third on Haydon Reynolds’ RBI single.

Caldwell plated four more runs in the fifth inning aided by three hit batters and two Trigg errors.

Caldwell got hits from six players with Puckett adding a double.

Trigg outhit Caldwell 9-6 with Aiden Butts, Nate Simmons, and Aaden Allen each collecting two hits.

Wildcat pitchers issued 13 walks in the game and hit five batters.

Trigg County (1-1) will play at Dawson Springs on Saturday, while Caldwell County (2-1) will host Paducah Tilghman.
