
The first week of the regular season was a solid one for the Caldwell County Tiger baseball team.
A four-run third inning as the difference on Saturday as Caldwell turned back Paducah Tilghman 6-3 at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.
The Tigers (3-1) built a 6-0 lead through four innings before the Blue Tornado scored all three of its runs in the top of the fifth.
Channing Puckett blanked Tilghman over the first four innings before allowing a leadoff walk in the top of the fifth. Puckett ended the day allowing one run on one hit while striking out five and walking five.
Drew Stevens tossed the fifth and sixth innings for the Tigers.
Scott Cortner pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the save.
Luke Parker was 2-for-3 at the plate and scored three times for Caldwell.
Brendan Mira was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in for Tilghman, which is 1-1.
Caldwell’s first week of the season also included wins over Livingston Central and Trigg County but a loss to Union County.
The Tigers will play at home again on Monday, hosting Hopkins County Central for the first 7th District game of the season.
