Rylee Hendricks smacked a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence with two outs in the seventh inning to give Trigg County a 10-9 win over Union County Friday.

The three-run shot capped a comeback that saw Trigg rally from a 7-1 deficit and claim its second straight win.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, MaKenna Hendricks and Veyda Grinols both reached on errors. That set the stage for Hendricks to send a pitch over the fence for her first career walk-off home run.

It capped a four-hit night for the Lady Wildcat senior and put the finishing touches on one of Trigg’s largest comeback wins in recent years.

Union County used five singles to score four runs in its first at-bat. Back-to-back doubles by Jaylen Tackett and Sydney Thomas in the fourth inning extended Union’s lead to 7-1.

Trigg County muffled its chances to cut into the lead with a parade of baserunning mistakes. A lineout into a double play ended the first inning. A double play cut down a run at the plate to end the third. Another runner was thrown out at home in the fourth. A double play ended the fifth inning with another Trigg runner thrown out at the plate.

“I cost us three runs not communicating well,” said Trigg coach Monty Todd. “I thought a fly ball was dropped and was blocked so I’m trying to score two runs and ended up running into a double play so the kids won despite me.”

Trigg began putting crooked numbers on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Grinols singled and was one of two runners to score on a Tember Oliver triple to right field, cutting the Union lead to 7-4.

Miley Mosley’s single in the fifth extended Union’s lead to 8-4, but Trigg got three runs back in the home half of the inning. Brynlee Smock singled home a run and then scored on a triple by Kiley Slone. MaKenna Hendricks followed with an RBI single.

Union County got an insurance run on a solo homer by Thomas in the sixth inning that preceded Trigg’s heroics in the seventh inning.

Slone, Oliver, Grinols, and Maddie Smith each had two hits for the Lady Wildcats, who tallied 15 for the game. Oliver got the pitching win with six strikeouts and seven earned runs allowed.

Thomas had a three-hit, three-RBI night for Union County (2-1). Tackett, Mosley, and Ashlynn Hargrove added two hits each.

Trigg County (2-2) will host Crittenden County in the district opener for both teams on Monday.
