Heritage Christian Academy was one out away from its first win of the season Friday night at Hopkins County Central.

However, the Storm’s Jak Mitchell doubled home two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Hopkins Central rallied for a 10-9 victory in Mortons Gap.

That capped a back-and-forth contest that saw the Warriors lead 3-1, trail 7-3, go back in front 9-7, but fall in the final inning.

Jake Askew was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in for Heritage Christian. Cadyn Travis was 2-for-3 and drove in two while Tycen Wells went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Hopkins Central (2-1) had just four base hits in the contest, but used 10 walks to its advantage.

Tristan Schmaltz had an inside-the-park grand slam for the Storm as part of a five-run fourth inning that pushed Hopkins Central in front 7-3.

HCA (0-4) countered with a six-run fifth inning to regain the lead. Collin Outland tripled home a run in that frame while the Warriors took advantage of three errors to retake the lead.

But Hopkins Central pulled out the win in its final at-bat.

Keegan Allen was the winning pitcher for the Storm. He went the final 2.2 innings, allowing no runs on one hit with four strikeouts and two walks.

Heritage Christian will host 8th District foe Christian County on Monday.
